Biography
- A. Kerem Dogueri received his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He worked and consulted in research & development, engineering and technology business development for various local and international companies, before joining EPO in 2003 as a patent examiner, where he deals mainly with classification, search and examination of patent applications especially in the electrical testing and measurements field, including semiconductor testing devices, monitoring and testing of power systems & components, electric motors & drives, electrical components in cars, batteries and as well as the details of electrical and magnetic sensors.
 
The Interface between Academia and Industry: Patents

Abstract - In this lecture, the role of patents in academia and industry will be addressed by focusing on the procedural aspects, including the phases from filing to grant/refusal, as well as on the search and substantial examination of patent applications, together with in-depth analysis of carrying out prior-art searches and patentability evaluation based especially on novelty and inventive step criteria. Furthermore, miscellaneous details about using patent information in research and development activities will be given. Disclosing research results through patent and/or scientific publications will also be discussed.
