![]() Aegean Whispers Irfan GÜNEY Acibadem University Composer, lyricist and academician Prof. Dr. Irfan Güney will be with us at ELECO 2021 with instrumental melodies composed for piano from the album "Aegean Whispers". Irfan Güney, who has been dealing with professional music since 1974, has played piano, keyboard and guitar in various groups and participated in domestic and international tours. As the Ozanlar group, they first worked with Tülay Özer and many other artists, and later made commercials and movie soundtracks. The soundtrack of the movie "Station", directed by Serif Gören and starring Hülya Koçyigit and Cüneyt Arkin, which they produced as a band of poets, was among the best Yesilcam soundtracks. Irfan Güney, who still carries out this hobby, has more than 100 compositions whose lyrics and music are his own, and has participated in television and radio programs as a guest artist. His first single in 1985 was "Rıhtımda", and the arrangement of this piece, whose lyrics and music belongs to him, was made by Turhan Yükseler. He released his first album "For You" in 2016. The arrangement of the compositions in the album, the lyrics and music of which belongs to him, was also made by Turhan Yükseler. The song "For You", which gave its name to this album, was also sung by Fatih Erkoc. His composition "How Are You", which is included in his double work "Red Color Songs", was sung by tenor Berk Özbek, one of the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet artists. After his singles such as "I Miss You" and Untitled Songs, he released an instrumental piano album called “Butterfly Dance”. His 10 compositions in his latest instrumental piano album “Aegean Whispers” were recorded with the Quadronet technique. With the concerts they gave as part of the social responsibility projects "Books turn in to music, music turns in to future" and "A Light from Acibadem", the needs of many schools in Southeastern Anatolia, the books in their libraries and the needs of the students were met. It actively continues social responsibility projects for children and women who have been subjected to violence and abuse for the benefit of IMDAT. He composed the music for the public service ads in “the Zero Tolerance for Forced Marriages project”. Preparations for the concerts called "The Scream of the Silent", which were held on behalf of the IMDAT association and could not be held due to the pandemic, continue. |
![]() Prof. Dr. Irfan GÜNEY Biography - Prof. Dr. Irfan GÜNEY was born in 1957 in Istanbul, Turkey. He completed his primary and secondary education at Pendik Merkez Primary School and Pendik High School, respectively. He started the piano department of Istanbul Municipal Conservatory part-time when he was in primary school, but could not continue due to transportation problems between Pendik and Cagaloglu in Istanbul. In 1979, he entered the Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory exams and won first place. However, since he was also a student of the Faculty of Engineering, he could not attend the conservatory as he could not attend two universities at the same time as per the current laws. He graduated from Yildiz Technical University Electrical Engineering Department in 1980. He started to work as an engineer at Adapazari Sugar Factory. After completing the Master's program at Istanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, he received the title of M.Sc. Engineer in 1983 and started his doctorate program. He transferred to the Turkish Electricity Authority and worked in different units of the institution until 1987. After completing his doctorate program in 1987, Dr. Irfan Güney was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Marmara University and supported the organizing and establishment of the Faculty of Engineering. In 1989, he earned the title of associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Electrical Installations, Energy Transmission. In 1994, he was awarded the title of Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department of Electrical Installations. He served in many administrative positions at Marmara University, where he worked between 1987-2007, as Head of the Program, Head of the Department, Deputy Dean, Dean and Vice Rector. He was a visiting professor at the University of Glasgow in 1998 and at Arizona State University in the United States of America in 2002 within the scope of the World Bank Industrial Education Projects after his doctorate. He retired from Marmara University in 2007 and was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Vice Rector of Okan University. Irfan Güney, who was appointed as the Founding Dean and Vice Rector of the Faculty of Engineering in 2008 to carry out the foundation studies of Acibadem University, is the founder of Acibadem University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Medical Engineering. He still continues to work as Vice Rector at Acibadem University. 22 Master's theses and 10 Ph.D. thesis completed under the supervision of Irfan Güney, who actively works and carries out administrative duties in many commissions such as Interuniversity Board membership, Associate Professorship Basic Field Commission membership, YÖK Education Commission membership, Scientific Research Projects Commission Presidency and Membership, University-Industry Relations Coordinatorship. He has 117 scientific studies, four of which are printed books, articles published in journals scanned in international citation indexes and national refereed journals, papers presented and published in international and national scientific meetings, book chapters written in international books. He has been the executive of 8 projects, two of which were supported by the State Planning Organization and 7 of them by scientific research projects. He worked as a project manager and established laboratories in the 6 million dollar Mechatronics Systems Center Project and the 5 million dollar New Technologies Application and Research Centers projects supported by SPO at Marmara University. He also enabled the opening of the Mechatronics Technology Engineering Department at Marmara University. He was deemed worthy of the outstanding academician award given by the Marmara University Rectorate in 1994 and the Outstanding Achievement in Profession award given by the Marmara Rotary Club between 2003-2004. |
