Biography Prof. Bayrakci was born in Istanbul in 1933. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, High Current Branch (today's Electrical Engineering Department) in 1960. He completed his doctoral studies at Istanbul Technical University in 1974 with his doctoral thesis titled "Scattering of Caustic Waves from a Fully Conducting Circular Cylinder".
After retiring due to age limit in 2000, he took part in the establishment of Bahcesehir University Computer Engineering Department. Throughout his career, he conducted pioneering work in the fields of electronics, communications, and particularly satellite technologies, making significant contributions to the development of education and research in these fields in Turkey. Scientific research on Electromagnetic Field and Wave Theory, Antennas and Propagation, Satellite Communication Systems; He has published books titled Engineering Mathematics of Linear Systems (1991), Theory and Technique of Antennas (1992), Fundamentals of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (1998), Electromagnetic Field Theory (2000), Electromagnetic Wave Theory (2001), Satellite and Cellular Mobile Communication Systems (2002). Prof. Dr. Bayrakci is known as the author of the first untranslated book on satellites written in Turkey. With this work, he created an original Turkish resource on satellite communications in our country and secured a lasting place in the development of engineering education. There are 14 Master's and 3 Doctoral Theses completed under his supervision. His educational approach, passion for knowledge, and the sincere connection he established with his students made him not only an academic but also a source of inspiration. He is remembered for his high-paced teaching style and the discipline he instilled in his students. He presented at national and international scientific congresses and served as a member of the scientific committees for events organized by the Chamber of Electrical Engineers. He was married and he has three children and spoke good English. He passed away on October 24, 2025. Prof. Dr. H. Ergun Bayrakci leaves behind hundreds of students, countless scientific works, and a deep respect. We will always remember him for his dedication to knowledge, his energy and his humanitarian side.
