ELECO 2023 Best Student Paper Awards



 

Student participation is encouraged to increase the interest of young researchers to ELECO activities. Therefore, the ELECO 2023 Best Student Paper Awards will be awarded to the authors of the best student papers.

The conditions to participate in the contest are that the paper should be authored or co-authored by a graduate or undergraduate student, who has had a major contribution to the paper and who will present the paper at the conference.

1- ELECO 2023 Best Student Paper Award in memory of Professor Ayten KUNTMAN

One of the best student paper awards will be given in memory of Professor Ayten KUNTMAN in ELECO 2023.


Prof. Dr. Ayten KUNTMAN
(3 May 1956 - 29 April 2023)

She was professor in Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. She has contributed to the development of electrical engineering in Turkey.

She was as member of organising and technical committees, reviewer, and invited speaker in the ELECO conferences for twenty four years since 1999. We are grateful for her contributions to the ELECO Conferences.
 

 

Biography - Prof. Dr. Ayten Kuntman received her bachelor's/master's degrees from Istanbul University and her doctorate from Istanbul Technical University in 1979 and 1989, respectively. In 1980, she joined Istanbul Technical University Electronics and Communication Engineering Department. In 1995, she transferred to the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Istanbul University. She has served as a professor in the same department since 2001, and retired voluntarily in February 2017.

Her areas of interest include dielectric properties of polymers, semiconductors, microelectronic technologies, cable polymers, anisotropic etching, thermodynamic properties of polymers, aging and reliability of electrical and semiconductor materials.

Dr. Kuntman has signed many international publications on the above-mentioned subjects.

Beyond that, she managed and completed the dissertations of 5 doctoral and 14 graduate students. In addition, she managed and completed 14 projects supported by the Istanbul University Research Fund.

Dr. Kuntman served as Editor in Chief of IU-JEEE magazine from 2009 to 2017.

2- ELECO 2023 Best Paper Award in memory of Professor Cevdet ACAR on Circuits and Systems

One of the best paper awards will be given in memory of Professor Cevdet ACAR in ELECO 2023.


Prof. Dr. Cevdet ACAR
(1943 - 10 May 2023)

He was professor in Istanbul Technical University and Yeditepe University, Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He has contributed to the development of electrical engineering in Turkey.

He was as member of technical committees (ELECO 2004, ELECO 2006 and ELECO 2008) and reviewer in the ELECO conferences for ten years since 2004. We are grateful for his contributions to the ELECO Conferences.
 

 

Biography - Prof. Dr. Cevdet Acar was born in Hopa in 1943. He graduated from ITU Technical School of Electrical Engineering in 1965 and from ITU Electrical Faculty Weak Current Branch in 1967.

In the same year, he entered the Department of Circuit Theory of the Electrical Faculty as a technician M.Sc. and was appointed as an assistant in 1970. In 1972, he received the title of Doctor, Associate Professor in 1977 and Professor in 1988 with his thesis titled "New Possibilities in Circuit Theory with Signal-Flow Diagrams".

He conducted research and lectured at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1974-1976 and at the University of California, Davis in 1984-1986.

In addition to his teaching and research activities at ITU, he gave lectures at Karadeniz Technical University and Yıldız Technical University.

Studies and publications, 33 original articles published in English, 14 papers and conferences presented in English, 2 papers and conferences presented in Turkish; It consists of 2 original articles, 4 research reports and 1 book published in Turkish. Some of his publications are cited in the "Science Citation Index".

He was awarded the 50th Anniversary Research Award of the Republic in 1973 by the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey, and the Incentive Award in 1978 for his work titled "New Return Difference Matrix".

He is married and has two children. He retired in August 2000. He dead in May 2023.

3- ELECO 2023 Best Student Paper Award in memory of Mahmut CURA

One of the best student paper awards will be given in memory of Mahmut CURA in ELECO 2023.

(1974 - 20 August 2023)

Mahmut Cura, who was a member of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers of Turkey (EMO) Bursa Branch 18th Term Executive Board, died on 20 August 2023 as a result of a traffic accident in Bulgaria.

Mahmut Cura took charge as an Associate Member of the Board of EMO Bursa Branch in 2008. He contributed to the studies as a member of many commissions, including Energy and Privatization, Personal Rights, Building Inspection, Occupational Health and Occupational Safety between 2006 and 2023 at EMO Headquarters and Bursa Branch.

Mahmut Cura was member of advisory board at ELECO 2008 and 2010, and member of local committee at ELECO 2022 and 2023. We are grateful for his contributions to the ELECO Conferences.

 

 

Biography - Mahmut Cura was born in Antakya in 1974. He graduated from Ondokuz Mayis University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1998.

In TEIAS, he worked as an Electrical Engineer between Sept 1998 - Jan 2003 (4 year 5 month) at Bursa-Balikesir-Yalova-Canakkale with several responsibilities in Installation and O&M Departments.

In TEIAS, he worked as a Chief Engineer between Sept 2003 - Jan 2009 (5 year 5 month) at Bursa, Turkey with protection, control and metering in HV Power Systems Department.

In Polat Energy, he worked as an Electrical Engineering and Operation Director between Jan 2009 - Jan 2016 (7 year 6 month) at Istanbul, Turkey;

Design and Installation responsibilities of 5 Wind Energy Power Plants (totally 503 MW):

  • Soma WEPP (240,1 MW_Manisa),
  • Seyitali WEPP (30 MW_Izmir),
  • Poyraz WEPP (54,9 MW_Balikesir),
  • Kozbeyli WEPP (28 MW_Izmir),

O&M Responsibility of 8 WEPPs (Totally 602,1 MW):

In Plan-Test Energy Systems who is founder, he worked as an Electrical Engineer and Operation Director between July 2016 - Aug 2023 (7 year 3 month) at Bursa, Turkey on Renewable Energy Power Plants Project-Design, Project Management, and Consultancy. Also, he worked on High Voltage Power Systems Project-Design, Project Management, Test and Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance.
