      Chairman's Message

Dear Colleagues

First of all, on behalf of the Conference Committee of ELECO’05, I would like to thank to all contributors for their valuable papers which are presented in this conference proceeding. We all know that, conference papers are the result of extensive analytical, experimental and computational works. In this respect, we should congratulate them for their success since every paper has been carefully reviewed by the international referees.

This year 176 papers have been submitted for presentation and 153 papers been accepted. Some of the accepted papers have been revised in the direction of the comments and remarks of the referees. If we look at the contributions with respect to geographical point of view, it is seen that ELECO’05 contributions are coming from 22.different countries.

This is a fourth international ELECO conference which is held every odd years. More and more it is becoming a traditional event on electrical engineering and electronics.  It is known that, every year there are numerous conferences organised all over the world. Even though, ELECO attracts enough contributions. Traditionally, ELECO conference papers are grouped under three headings. These are : Electronics, Power and Control. Also the conference sessions are organised accordingly. This approach has some advantageous. The most obvious one is gathering the scientists and engineers from various disciplines of electrical engineering. However, it must be mentioned that, focusing on a very specialised area with detailed discussions is somewhat reduced. I believe it is time to increase the intensity and concentrations without sacrificing the generality of the conference.

The conference venue is Bursa again, which is one of the most popular historical and touristic city in Turkey. Uludağ, a top skiing resort, is in one hour driving distance. There are number of thermal water spring and Roman Baths in the city. History of Bursa goes back to BC period. City was influential during West Roman Empire which last until 13th century. It had the most prosperous period when it was capital of Ottoman Empire in 14-15th centuries.

Bursa is not only famous with its natural beauty and history but also important with its industry. It was traditionally a silk and textile town, now hosting to automotive, machine tool, chemical, food, electronics and software industries.

ELECO’05 is jointly organised by two universities and Bursa Section of the Chamber of Turkish Electrical Engineers. Most of the administrative and financial work is accomplished by the Chamber. Without their contribution, this conference would not be realised. Uludağ University is one of the two organising universities, which is located in Bursa. Uludağ University’s development is continuing ever since it was established in 1975. The other organising body is Istanbul Technical University (ITU) that is celebrating its 232th anniversary. ITU is one of the most influential technical university in Turkey. Most of the academic work of ELECO’05 is conducted by ITU staff.

IEEE Circuits and Systems Society supports the conference. We are grateful to them for their contributions.

I hope this conference would contribute to the science and technology, and also promote the understanding and friendship between the scientist and engineers gathered from various countries.
