Scientific cartoonist
TAYFUN AKGUL
presents his personal exhibition in the frame of ELECO 2013
Tayfun Akgul is a Professor of Electrical Engineering in the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering at Istanbul Technical University and a professional cartoonist-regularly published in the Science and Technology section of the prestigious daily newspaper Cumhuriyet in Turkey, the Turkish `MathWorld` and ‘Homur’ magazines.
He is a Member of the Cartoonists' Association of Turkey since 1986 (He served as a Member in the Administration Board in 2005). His drawings appeared in various Turkish math and science books as well as in Bilim ve Ütopya, Cumhuriyet Bilim ve Teknik, Karikatur, EMO, and Karikaturk and in the American IEEE The Institute, Journal of Irreproducible Results, Pittnews, and In Pittsburgh. He also published his work on various online sites.
His cartoon book entitled "Bilimum" was published by the Cartoonists' Association of Turkey with the aid from the Ministry of Culture in 2004. He has two books in Turkish "Dörtköse Yazilar" (Quad-Essays, 2003) and "Dörtköse Mektuplar" (Quad-Letters, 2003) of collections of science related humorous essays. His recent book entitled "FenniKarikaturler" (ScientifiCartoons) was published by the Chamber of Electrical Engineers of Turkey in June 2011.
Tayfun Akgül's cartoon corner `Et Cetera` appears in Pulse (formerly the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine) and in the IEEE Region 8 Newsletter plus in the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine where he serves as an Associate editor. Also, his cartoons and sketches are being published in the Best of the Web corner of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine.
He was Member-at-Large in the IEEE PSPB for the 2006-2008 and 2008-2011 terms. Currently, he is Member of IEEE Ethics and Member Conduct Committee.
